Description
Pictured is a combined coat of arms and memorial plaque in the Fortress of Vignola, Italy. The coat of arms is a blend of the truncated dragon of the Boncompagni family and the three vertical stripes of the Ludovisi family. The original decoration is in a room of the Fortress of Vignola. The plaque notes that the restoration of the original decoration began in 1920 and the Fortress of Vignola was acquired by the combined Boncompagni and Ludovisi families in 1577. Francesco Boncompagni was an Italian cardinal and Niccolo Ludovisi was Prince of Piombino.
