Russian Cast-Iron 36-pounder War Gun on a System Venglov Pattern Carriage #294451159
Description
This cannon gun was cast for the Imperial Russian army. The base ring has an ogee on the muzzle side and a fillet on the breech side. The cascable is plain save two fillets where a horizontal button drilled with a vertical apeture sits. There is a vent patch adjacent to the base ring ogee and its short length marks the vent field and at its end lies a vent field astragal and fillets. Thence lies the first reinforce ending in a first reinforce ring. The second reinforce holding the half-collared trunnions ends with a second reinforce ring and ogee thence a short chase girdle ending with a chase astragal and fillets. The chase then ends with a muzzle astragal and fillets, muzzle flare and two fillets on the muzzle face. The second reinforce bears the Russian Imperial Arms in relief. The reinforce ring is drilled for a fore sight and the cascable for a rear sight, but the holes have been filled. The cascable button is formed as a vertically pierced loop (possibly intended to take an elevating gear since it is in the wrong plane to serve as a breeching loop) the vent patch has been drilled for a lock though the holes are now filled.
