Jerusalem Film Festival Premiere: Lia Van Leer Greets Marcello Mastroianni In 1986 Editorial Photo

Festival head, Lia Van Leer, greets Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni at the Cinematheque for the 4th Annual Jerusalem International Film Festival in Israel on July 2, 1987. Present are dignitaries, media, and film connoisseurs. Van Leer was the driving force behind the annual July film event and the founder of the Haifa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem Cinematheques which pioneered art film programming in the nation. Van Leer won the Israel Prize in 2004 for lifetime achievement in her work which benefited society and the State of Israel. She died at 90 on March 13, 2015 in Jerusalem. Mastroianni died at 72 in 1996. His daughter, Barbara Mastroianni, stands directly in back of Van Leer. She was a film costume designer, and she died in 2018 at the age of 66.
