Marble 12th-13th century sculpture of a dancing figure on display in the Dallas Museum of Art. #303916353
Description
Pictured is a marble 12th-13th century sculpture of a dancing figure on display in the Dallas Museum of Art in Dallas, Texas. The sculpture may be associated with Jainism, and austere religion similar to Buddhism, but Jain art incorporates many Hindu forms, such as the voluptuous female figure of this dancer. She is putting on her heavy ankle bracelet, which forms a musical accompaniment to her dance. Jainism was founded in the 6th century BC by Vardhamana Mahavira and was poplular in Indian states such as Rajasthan.
