Description
Pictured are two hungry lion cubs resting n the grass in an open grassland after feeding on the remains of a several day old zebra carcass in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa. One is standing and one is on the ground. The cubs face and front paws are smeared with the black carrion of the old carcass. Lion cubs do not learn to hunt effectively until they are two years old. There was no lioness seen anywhere with these cubs and it was assumed the lioness had been killed, giving these cubs little chance of survival. The binomial name is Panthera leo. The photograph was taken from a safari vehicle at the Atzaro Okavango Camp.
