Fyvush Finkel shares the stage with then New York City mayor, Rudy Giuliani, and regales a crowd at May 12, 1997 in Manhattan's Bryant Park during Jewish Heritage Week festivities. Finkel was an American stage, film, and Emmy Award-winning television actor. Brooklyn-born, he starred on the Yiddish theater stage where he performed for 35 years. He was also a stand-up comic in the Catskills on the so-called Borscht Belt circuit. He is perhaps best known for his tv role of eccentric defense lawyer Douglas Wambaugh a role for which he won his Emmy in 1994 in the critically acclaimed drama ââ¬ÅPicket Fences.ââ¬Â He also gained popularity for his role as the curmudgeonly history teacher Harvey Lipschultz in the drama ââ¬ÅBoston Public.ââ¬Â He appeared in the original Broadway production of ââ¬ÅFiddler on the Roofââ¬Â in 1964. Brooklyn-born, Finkel died at 93 on August 14, 2016.
