President Chaim Herzog of Israel toasts Member of the Knesset Ora Namir of the Labor Party on the occasion of installation of the incoming government headed by Yitzhak Rabin and his deputy prime minister, Shimon Peres directly in back of Herzog. Justice minister David Libai stands between Herzog and Namir. The event took place at the president`s residence, Beit Hanassi, on July 14, 1992. Herzog, born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, served with British forces during World War Two. In Israel he rose to Major General. A Labor Party member, he served two terms as the nation`s 6th president, from 1983-1993. Namir was a longtime Member of the Knesset parliament and under the Rabin and Peres governments served as Minister of the Environment and as Minister of Labor and Social Welfare. She later served for several years as her country`s ambassador to China. Herzog died at 78 on April 17, 1997. Namir died on July 7, 2019 at the age of 88.
