Dia de los Muertos mural by Alexander Tamahn in an alley by the building of Living Arts of Tulsa. #264170817
Description
Pictured is a Dia de los Muertos mural by Alexander Tamahn in an alley by the building of Living Arts of Tulsa. It features the bible verse matthew 5:4, `Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted`. A common symbol of the holiday is the skull, or in Spanish, the calavera. The Mexican illustrator Jose Guadalupe Posada created a style of calaveras in which costumed figures would be given a skeleton face. Celebrants represent these skulls in masks called calacas, as seen in this mural. Alexander Tamahn is a man of faith on a divine mission to transform the world through purposeful art. Some describe him as a modern-day black Michelangelo.
