Jane Byrne is the guest of honor at a Christmas Day event for senior citizens and disabled people in the lobby of City Hall in 1979. In 1979 Byrne became the first and only female elected mayor of Chicago. The Democratic mayor served one term before being beaten in the Democratic primary by Harold Washington in 1983. Feisty and outspoken, Byrne died at 81 on November 14, 2014.
